Waste World

Throwing away our planet’s treasures

The purpose of this series, portraying our ability to discard our most precious possessions, is to prompt reflection on our society of over-consumption and our inertia in addressing global warming.

We discard our glaciers and forests without hesitation, highlighting the absurdity of our inaction in the face of such a critical issue.

This depiction underscores the urgency for change and the need to confront the consequences of our collective neglect.

In his own words

Waste World is a brutal metaphor for our society of overconsumption. It is about the frenzy that drives us to accumulate, consume and throw away — always more, always faster — until we exhaust what is most precious to us: our planet. We live surrounded by waste, but we no longer see it. Throwing things away has become a banal reflex, as ordinary as breathing.

In this series I wanted to confront viewers with that absurdity: to see the world we are destroying literally packed into garbage bags. Glaciers, forests, coral reefs and entire mountains are sealed inside, as if they were already part of our civilisation’s refuse. Each image shows an ecosystem we treat like a consumer product, meant to disappear once “used”.

The landscapes I created feel both familiar and out of reach, trapped in their plastic wrapping. They evoke smothered beauty, nature reduced to an object. It is a disturbing vision because it holds up a mirror: if we keep consuming without limits and throwing away without thinking, it is our own home we will end up putting out with the trash.
